In short

Block paving in Buckingham, answered.

Yes, Terry lays block paving drives in Buckingham. Most of the town is 1970s and later estate housing, where the original concrete or early block drives are now wearing out, and a new block drive on a proper base is built to last 25 years plus.

Buckingham (MK18) is about 30 minutes' drive from central Milton Keynes. All about Buckingham: the parts we cover, the council and the other rules.

Local knowledge

What is different about block paving in Buckingham.

Buckingham roughly doubled in size after 1970, and the estates built then, Page Hill, Badgers, Bourton and Linden Village among them, now have drives that are forty or more years old. Cracked concrete and early block that has sunk at the edges are both replaced with a new block drive on a proper base.

Lace Hill, to the south, is 2010s housing with short block drives that can be lengthened in a matching block. In the Georgian and Victorian centre around Market Hill, West Street and Castle Street most houses have almost no front, but where there is space, brindle block suits the brick.

The council consulted in 2025 on stretching the conservation area along Moreton Road, Stowe Avenue, Mitre Street and Station Road, so on those streets it is worth checking before the front changes.

In the centre the streets are narrow, so the skip sits on the plot or on a permit; out on the estates the van and skip fit on the drive.

Block paving in Buckingham: questions people ask.

How long does the dropped kerb licence take in Buckingham?

Up to 28 days. Buckinghamshire Council wants planning permission, or a letter saying none is needed, before it issues the licence, and the work is done by a contractor qualified for street works. Terry handles the application and arranges the kerb with the drive, so it is worth starting early.

Should I replace my old block drive or repair it?

If the blocks are sound and one area has sunk, repair can be the better deal. If the whole drive was laid without a proper base, relaying it on 200mm to 250mm of compacted stone costs less in the long run.

Is the Lace Hill block easy to match?

Usually close. Terry brings samples to the visit, and where a perfect match is not possible a contrasting border makes the extension look deliberate.

The build and the price

The same standard in every town.

The layers, the written quote and the guarantee do not change from town to town, so they live on one page.
